After hours of scouring the internet for voter generated content, I chose two examples supporting McCain (because they’re rare) and one pro-Obama video.
A used car dealer in Iowa offered a novel come on to drum up business for himself and to get votes for John McCain! The dealership is in What Cheer, Iowa (the town is real) but the rest of the story sounds like a spoof. Car dealer Jedikiah Robertson is offering “5% discounts to customers who agree to place a John McCain sticker on their new car’s bumper.” The photo of a stereotypical used car salesman wearing a plaid jacket is a hoot. “I’d rather be a conservative nut job than a liberal with no nuts and no job,” the blog quoted him.
Who’s behind this apparent charade? Perhaps an internet Colombo can find out because the domain name is hidden. I checked allwhois.com and found it was registered to Moniker Privacy Services – a company that shields the identity of web sponsors.
Here’s one calling on all McCain bloggers to participate in a weekend McCainiac linkfest.
“McCainBlogs.com is not officially affiliated with John McCain for President. The opinions expressed by authors and commenters at McCainBlogs.com are theirs alone, and do not reflect the opinions of John McCain or anyone associated with the official campaign. We’ll make mistakes–wait, no we won’t. We never do! You might think we’re banal, silly, or just freakin’ awesome, but that’s just us. Deal with it. Capisce?”
A new Jewish pro-Obama YouTube video is out — “A Jewish Mom for Obama”.

This independent video is a good example of a grassroots effort to reach a specific voter base.
The Barack Obama campaign rules the voter generated content world. The dearth of McCain examples this late in the campaign is surprising. It will be interesting to find out the extent of VGC’s role in the outcome of the 2008 Presidential race.
